Creating a Workspace

Note

It is recommended to use several databases or workspaces to keep the data volume small and comprehensible, and to ensure optimal ASCET performance.

  1. Do one of the following:

    • In the File menu, select New Workspace.
    • Click the New button.
    • Press <Ctrl> + <Shift> + <n>.

The Save new workspace as window opens. The ASCET workspace path (see Paths Options (Environment)), the ASCET workspace file type (*.aws), and the default name workspace.aws are preselected.

  2. In the Save new workspace as window, enter path and file name for the new workspace and click Save.

  3. If you selected a non-empty directory, Closedanother step is inserted.

    A warning message opens:

The folder "<folder path and name>" is not empty! Shall a new, empty subdirectory be created or do you want to select another location?

    • Proceed as follows:

      1. Activate Remember my Decision if you want to apply your answer to all such cases.

You can revoke this setting in the ASCET options window, Confirmation Dialogs node.

      2. In the message window, click Create new to create an empty directory <workspace name> at the selected location.

The workspace is created in the new folder.

        Or

      3. Click Select other to return to the Save new workspace as window and select another, empty folder.

        Or

      4. Click Cancel to abort the procedure.

The new workspace is created in the directory you specified. It opens automatically, empty except for the workspace name.

  4. Proceed as described in Managing Database/Workspace Items.
