Uploading a Configuration from the Hardware

Device configurations can be saved either in files by the Daisy Chain configuration program or in the memory of the hardware devices themselves. The parameter settings thus saved in the device memory are not automatically applied, but they can be read into the Daisy Chain configuration program or applied at any time, even after powering the device down and re-powering it.

Note

Uploading the configuration is only possible if the arrangements in the editor and in the actual chain topology match, i.e. if they contain the same numbers and types of devices and the devices are assigned to a chain in the same order. To check whether the arrangements match, you can verify the daisy chain configuration. If you need to adapt the arrangement in the Daisy Chain configuration program, you can do a search for hardware and map connected devices to those used in the editor.

To upload the configuration from the physically connected hardware to the Daisy Chain configuration program:

  1. In the Topologylist, select the chain or device whose configuration you would like to upload from the device memory.

If you select a chain, the configuration of all devices in that chain will be uploaded at once from the memory of the corresponding hardware devices.

  2. Make sure that an IP address is set for that chain in the Daisy Chain configuration program; otherwise assign an IP address to the chain.
  3. In the Devicemenu, select Upload Configuration to display the parameter settings that are saved in the device memory below the parameter values set in the Daisy Chain configuration program.

    or

  4. If you would like to take over the parameter settings in the Daisy Chain configuration program immediately, select Upload and apply configurationfrom the Device menu.
  5. Confirm the dialog boxes to continue with uploading.

The Daisy Chain configuration program searches for a physically connected daisy chain which has the same IP address and layout as the chain selected in the editor. Having found the hardware, the editor uploads the parameter configurations from the memory of the selected devices into the Daisy Chain configuration program.

The configuration from the device memory is displayed in the Topology tree view directly below the configuration that is currently set in the Daisy Chain configuration program. A symbol indicates whether the parameter settings in the device memory and the Daisy Chain configuration program are identical or different:

The configurations are identical.

The configurations are different.
The upper item in the Topology tree represents the parameter values that are set in the Daisy Chain configuration program. The item below in the Topology tree represents the values that are stored in the device memory.
The parameter values that are different in these two representations are displayed in red.

Note

If you want to take over the parameter settings from the device memory into the device configuration in the Daisy Chain configuration program, you explicitly have to applythem.
