Creating a Message

You can create scalar and non-scalar messages.

Note
Message names must not begin with a number. If you enter a name that begins with a number, an allowed name is suggested instead.

To create a scalar message, proceed as follows.
1. In the Elements palette or toolbar, click the * Message button for the scalar message you want to create ().
  The new message appears in the Outline tab. The properties editor of the message opens automatically and allows the user to change the message properties immediately.
2. If you do not want to open the properties editor upon a message’s creation, deactivate the Always show Editor for new Elements option at the bottom of the editor.
  You can revoke this setting in the ASCET options window, Confirmation Dialogs node.
3. Click inside the drawing area to place the new message.
  In the diagram, the message appears at the point where you clicked.
To create a non-scalar message, i.e. a message of array, matrix, or record type, proceed as follows.
1. Do one of the following:
  - Click Array or Matrix to create an array or matrix.
  - Include a record manually or via the block library.
  The new element appears in the Outline tab. The properties editor of the element opens automatically and allows the user to change the element properties immediately.
2. If you do not want to open the properties editor upon an element’s creation, deactivate the Always show Editor for new Elements option at the bottom of the editor.
  You can revoke this setting in the ASCET options window, Confirmation Dialogs node.
3. In the properties editor, Kind combo box, select Message.
  The array, matrix or record is now a message. The "Internal Access" area of the properties editor is changed accordingly, and the Reference option is deactivated and disabled.
4. In the Scope field, select the scope of the message.
  Messages with scope Local are always SendReceive messages.
5. Use the options in the Internal Access area to fine-tune the kind of an imported or exported message.
  You can activate one or both options. You cannot deactivate both options at the same time.

You can change the properties of a message later via re-opening the properties editor.
