Triggering Breathe Mode of the LSU5.1 to retain Measurement Accuracy

The LSU5.1 sensor has an internal reservoir which needs to contain oxygen for the sensor to operate. After a period of operation in a rich environment, the oxygen fill level in the internal reservoir may drop low, which makes the sensor inaccurate or even stop working. To prevent this, you can enable the breathe mode of the sensor. In the breathe mode, oxygen is hydrolysed from the exhaust gas, thus replenishing the reservoir and restoring normal accuracy.

You can trigger the breathe mode either manually or automatically.

As the fill level of the internal oxygen reservoir cannot be measured, the ES63x maintains a model of the reservoir to estimate the fill level.

To trigger the breathe mode manually:

  1. In the Topology list, select the Lambda device with the LSU5.1 sensor.
  2. Select Breathe mode from the Device menu.

A message indicates that breathe mode has been requested from the sensor, and the internal reservoir is being replenished with oxygen.

Breathe mode will take several seconds; during this period, several signals will be invalid!

If breathe mode is manually requested and the model indicates that the fill level is sufficient, then the request is ignored and measurement continues uninterrupted.

To trigger the breathe mode automatically:
