Adding a Device

To add one device or more to the Hardware devices list:

  1. In the Device menu, select Insert.

The Add hardware device dialog box opens.

  2. If you want to search for a HW device, use the search field to directly enter your search string.

For search queries, take the following rules into account:

    • If you do not know the exact HW device name, use the * character as wildcard in your search string.

    • If you want to search for data starting and ending with a specific string, position a wildcard before and after the string.

    • The search is not case-sensitive; it finds data, even if the capitalization in the text is different from the capitalization in the search term.

To initiate the search, press Enter or click . The matching search string is highlighted in the Available HW devices list. The related subfolders automatically expand.

If you want to browse your search results, click or .

If you want to show all search results, click . The Found hardware items dialog box opens. Select the desired HW item to highlight the HW item in the Available HW devices list.

  3. Select devices from the Available HW devices list.

To differently display the available devices, use or .

  4. In the Multiplicity(Active) field, specify how often you want to insert the device.

    Note

Not all devices can be inserted more than once, and you cannot insert more than one device simultaneously.

  5. Click OK.

The devices are added to the list.

For control devices, you also have to specify a project and (optionally) a working dataset. For these devices, the Select project and working data for device dialog box opens automatically.

    1. Mark a project in the Projects list.

For CAN monitoring, select the CAN description (click ).
The CAN description is provided either by a CAN description file (*.dbc) or by an AUTOSAR system template (*.arxml). If you use an AUTOSAR system template, you must select one of the CAN clusters shown under the AUTOSAR item.

For FlexRay monitoring, select the FIBEX description file (click ).

For LIN monitoring, select the LDF file (click ).

    2. In the Datasets list, you can mark a working dataset ( icon). This working dataset is then used for the control device.

If you select a write-protected master or reference dataset (with the or icon), a copy of this dataset with an incremented name is automatically created and used as the working dataset.

    3. Click OK.

The project and the working dataset are then set accordingly for the control device.
