  2. Click on , select the file to be imported and click on Open.
  3. Set the desired import options:

    • Mark the Replace objects with same object ID check box if you want to replace objects that are already part of the database. This avoids the creation of copies of database objects which might make the database confusing.

      Note

The objects are not identified by their name, but by an internal ID. This means that if this option is checked, existing objects will be replaced even if they are renamed or located in a different folder.

    • Mark the Import in selected path of database check box if the contents of the export file shall be copied to the selected path. If the check box is unchecked, they will be copied to the root folder.
    • Mark the Keep folder structure from the export file check box if the contents of the export file shall be copied including their folder structure within the export file. If the check box is unchecked, they will be copied flat.
  4. Click OK.

The Import dialog box opens. The database objects and external files linked to the imported file are listed.

  5. Select the objects and files you want to import.
  6. Click OK.

    Note

Selecting an object in this dialog box automatically selects it in the Database Objects list box in the INCA Database Manager. This makes it easy to find that object even in large and complex databases.

  7. Click OK to close the dialog box.

  4. If you want to export referenced database objects at the same time, select the Include referenced items check box. All objects and external files referenced by the objects to be exported are then exported too.
  5. If you want to create a separate file for each database (with the object name as the file name), select the One file for each item check box. If you define this setting and export more than one database object, you are not asked each time whether an existing file should be overwritten.

If you have not selected One file for each item, all database objects are exported to one file.

  6. Selcet the File Format depending on the INCA version you open the files with.

  7. Click OK.

The Export file dialog box opens.

    2. Click Save.

All selected objects are exported to a file.

To update a database object from file:

  1. In the Database Objects listbox, select the database object you would like to update.
  2. In the Edit menu, select Update.

Updates are possible for ECU projects, ECU documentation, CAN-DBs and measure catalogs.

Note

If you want to update an ECU project, INCA checks the consistency of the old and new project descriptions by comparing properties such as EPROM ID (EPK) and memory ranges. INCA executes the update only if the projects match.
